# How to save Bilibili subtitles as Markdown

Updated 26 September 2026

To save Bilibili subtitles as Markdown, open the video on bilibili.com with the Pocketdown extension installed, click the Pocketdown icon and press **Clip captions**. Pocketdown fetches the video's subtitle track — made by the uploader or generated by Bilibili's AI — and turns it into a Markdown transcript in which every paragraph starts with a timestamp linking back to that point in the video.

## Step by step

1. **Install Pocketdown.** Add it from the [Chrome Web Store](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/nelaefmjglapmijpoehfdijofjgencla); it works in Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
2. **Open the video on bilibili.com.** If the video only shows subtitles to signed-in viewers, sign in to Bilibili first.
3. **Click the Pocketdown icon.** On a video page it opens straight to the **Video Captions** tab.
4. **Choose a subtitle track if there is more than one.** AI-generated subtitles are marked *(auto)*.
5. **Press Clip captions.** The Markdown is copied to your clipboard the first time; after that the button reuses how you delivered your last clip.

## What the Markdown looks like

Real output for a Chinese-language video. Text in any language comes through as it is.

```markdown
---
title: 10 分钟看懂 TCP 三次握手
source: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1xx411c7mD/?spm_id_from=333
site: Bilibili
clipped: 2026-09-26
type: video-transcript
captions: 中文（中国）
---
# 10 分钟看懂 TCP 三次握手
- [00:00](https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1xx411c7mD/?t=0) 今天我们来讲 TCP 的三次握手。 第一次握手，客户端发送 SYN 报文。
- [01:10](https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1xx411c7mD/?t=70) 第二次握手，服务器回复 SYN-ACK。
```

Timestamp links point to the video with `?t=` and drop everything else from the address, so tracking parameters such as `spm_id_from` don't end up in your notes.

## How subtitles are found

Pocketdown asks Bilibili for the list of subtitle tracks using the session already in your browser — the same request the video page makes when you switch subtitles on. That is why subtitles Bilibili only shows to signed-in viewers need you to be signed in on bilibili.com. The subtitle text itself is then downloaded and turned into Markdown on your computer.

## Limits worth knowing

- **The video needs a subtitle track.** If it has none, the popup says *No captions on this video*. Reading captions off the player during playback is available on YouTube only.
- **No speech recognition.** Pocketdown saves existing subtitles; it doesn't create them.
- **Free plan:** 5 video caption clips a month across YouTube and Bilibili, 2 of them without an account. [Pro](https://pocketdown.com/pricing/) makes them unlimited.

## What leaves your browser

Subtitles go from Bilibili to your browser, and the transcript is built on your computer. Pocketdown's server only counts that a clip was used; it never receives the video's address, title or subtitles.

## Questions

### Does it work with Bilibili AI subtitles (AI字幕)?

Yes, when Bilibili provides them for the video. They appear in the subtitle track list marked (auto).

### Why does Pocketdown say there are no captions on a video that has subtitles?

Bilibili shows some subtitles only to signed-in viewers. Sign in on bilibili.com in the same browser and open the popup again.

### Does it work with Chinese text?

Yes. Subtitles are saved exactly as written, in any language, as UTF-8 Markdown.

### Is it free?

Up to 5 video caption clips a month are free, 2 of them without an account. Pocketdown Pro removes the limit for $4.99 a month or $49 a year.
